Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by fungi and cause Mycotoxicosis in animals. Raw feed components and finished feeds are contaminated with a wide range of Mycotoxins that can reduce animal performance, fertility and health. To reduce the economic losses of Mycotoxins in commercial herds applying effective solutions to lower the risk of Mycotoxicosis is very important.

MT Guard® is a very specific variant of Activated Montmorillonite that binds toxins in the feed and protects the animal from Mycotoxin effects.

Montmorillonite is a subclass of Smectite, which due to its high cation exchange capacity has a high affinity to sequester polar Mycotoxins.

The results of several studies at the University of Tehran have shown that in addition to a significantly higher absorption capacity of MT Guard® compared to other commercial binders, no release of Mycotoxins occurs in the lower gut and MT Guard successfully expulses the Mycotoxins through the gut.

MT Guard® Compliant with EU Approvals

According to EU regulation 10603/2013, only those variants of aluminosilicates can be designated as an adsorbent of Mycotoxins in animal feed that cont

feed that contain a minimum of 70%  Smectite/Montmorillonite. MT Guard® contains the EU approved level of Montmorillonite.

Why MT Guard® is different?

MT Guard® is refined from impurities during several refining processes and undergoes rearrangement of mineral bonds during heat and repeated aqueous-acid washings. This, along with the small particle size of MT Guard® have provided a very large surface area of 400 m3/g, which remarkably increases its capability to absorb Mycotoxins.

Powerful in the absorption of Mycotoxins and Endotoxins

During subacute ruminal acidosis in ruminants and bacterial infections in poultry and swine, the cell wall of gram-negative bacteria, so called as Endotoxins, causes inflammatory responses in the animals. In addition to Mycotoxins, MT Guard® can potentially adsorb endotoxins, thus prevents the dietary energy is partitioned for inflammatory responses instead of production.

Due to its high cation exchange capacity, MT Guard® specifically and irreversibly sequesters polar Mycotoxins such as Aflatoxins, Fumonisins, Ergot Alkaloids and Ochratoxin A, but it only non-selectively binds Zearalenone and Trichothecenes.
